By a wide margin, the best Panga Boat Fishing in
the area is done at Vonny's Fleet. Reservations recommended on any weekend. but
they are mandatory during Holidays and the Summer Season. Telephone direct from
the U.S., dial 011-52-646-154-2046, Email: vonyflet@telnor.net
, or the web site: http://www.vonnysfleet.com/
. Once again, everyone working here is to be trusted like
your closest friend. Ivan, Beto, Senor Cruz and Hector are the best
Panga Boat Fisherman in this area! Just hope that your
picture is taken, after your panga boat experience, by Ivan’s daughter. You
will be holding two or three of your biggest fish and could appear in the next
issue of Western Outdoor News. This fishing Magazine is published for the whole
Baja area. Ivan’s pictures are regularly published for the Ensenada area. We
have had this experience several times and so have our guests. It is fun seeing
yourself on the Internet after a great Baja fishing trip.
I still have not caught the Giant Bass I saw in a
boat smaller than ours one day when we were on our way out. They were as big as
three people lying in the bottom of the boat. We have caught many other large
fish over several years. We have never come in without a full cooler of fish.
During the Summer you have all of the surface fish like Yellow Tail, Bonita, Barracuda,
and Calico Bass. Whenever you have a bad day, there is always the bottom. Bottom
fishing here is wonderful. You can catch Cod, Bass, Tree fish, Red Snapper, Ling
Cod (my favorite), and Giant Bass. Seriously, we have fished with these people
every month of the year and have never had a bad day. They know where the fish are
and they move the boat whenever fishing is slow.
As far as our guests
are concerned, and we have
taken many out fishing, the nature out there is the reason to go fishing. We
have seen many whales, both sperm whales and the big gray whales. Seals are all
over the islands and around them. We have been in the middle of Dolphin pods
(see the Picture Gallery). The
Pelicans are everywhere as well. There are islands from the La Bufadora point
all the way to Todo Santos Island covered in wild life. Many trips we have seen
Boat size Jelly Fish floating near by. Remember to take your digital camera for
the sun rises, wild life, island shots, not to mention the fish you cash.
In addition, this is a great place to buy bait to fish in front of your beach house. Tackle is at least 15-20% cheaper than the states and they will only sell you what works. Ivan sells his clams at a reasonable price.
Vonny's Fleet is located on the Road to La
Bufadora. From Punta Banda (or the beach) you head for La Bufadora. Once you are
in La Jolla (just past all of the Olive and tamale shops on your left you will
hit the first speed bump. A block or so after that you will see a school up the
hill on the beach side and just opposite that on the left is Vonny's fleet.
There is a dirt road that goes up to where you see the Pangas. If you hit the
second speed bump, you just missed it on the south side of the street above you.
Once again, do not be intimidated by the season. The Yellowtail to the left was caught in late October. On that trip we caught other fish out of season. We caught Barracuda and Bonita on that trip. The Yellowtail at the top left was caught in December. The one just above this paragraph was caught in May. The Yellowtail Season is June through September.
Many
times we have caught this great fighting and eating fish out of season. One
thing is for sure, you will catch fish anytime per year. You should be so lucky
as to fish during the Winter and catch a twenty pound Ling Cod. This is a great
eating fish that doubles in size when you cook it. The one I am holding came to
the surface, saw the boat and went to the bottom again whether I wanted him to
or not. What a great fight.
